Since the Gardens were officially gazetted in 1988, over 10,000 plants have been established. The original curator Jim Randall collected seeds from wide range of species from the local area and further afield, for example, North Queensland, Central and Western Queensland.
Today there are several themed areas in the Gardens which give visitors a unique botanical experience and a chance to enjoy a beautiful part of the Bundaberg region. The Gardens are also home for 114 species of birds. The themed areas include:
Rare native trees growing in the Gardens include the Isis Tamarind (Alectryon ramiflorus) and the Wedge-leaved Tuckeroo (Cupaniopsis anacardiodes). Other interesting species include Jade vine (Strongylodon macrobotrys), Sausage tree (Kigelia pinnata) and Autograph tree (Clusia major). |
